While visiting with a close friend recently, we began to talk a little about the changes in the generations when it comes to photos and their importance. We discussed what is important today with photos as opposed to what seemed important when we were growing up. I have to say, it was very evident that times have changed. I know, they are suppose to change with the advancement of technology in virtually everything. Probably good and bad. What came to light immediately was important photographs then vs. now. If you were to look at the photos on say someones phone right now today, you would see a variety of things from tons of food shots to selfies with and without duck lips. Maybe a sports car or a place we had recently visited. While those are things we would all perhaps like to document, what became evident, was what is held dearly by older generations. Pictures of loved ones, in family photos, taken by someone else. They adorn the walls of the family homes or office spaces. They not only were enjoyed frequently but often became a conversation starter. I’m not bringing this up to stir-up today’s generation. This is just an observation. However I do believe that along the way somewhere the value of the family portraits has maybe taken a backseat in today’s times. I can speak for myself that it is extremely difficult to arrange the family for a portrait. From personally orchestrating a shoot to helping others to book the perfect date and time. We do live a fast life and getting everyone together is probably the toughest part! Who agrees? Feel free to comment and give much needed feedback. As tough as it is however, having a forever portrait of family is important, because time marches on and there are no do-overs….
